BIOGRAPHY
Yvonne Brandstetter is a Vienna-based physical performer, actress and dancer. Since September 2021 she has been a member of das.bernhard.ensemble at OFF Theater in Vienna, an ensemble reflecting the cultural diversity of the Viennese and Austrian populations. The performers operate at the interface of improvised spoken and physical theatre in their collective development of pieces.
To date, Yvonne has participated in nine productions with the ensemble and is currently rehearsing for their upcoming piece FLEDER.STRAUSS in collaboration with Serapions Ensemble at Odeon Theater, premiering on November 25, 2025 — Tickets.
Born in Vienna in 1993, Yvonne began her artistic journey after graduating from high school with a focus on sports and biomechanics. She toured internationally as a fire dancer and acrobat with the Viennese circus-performance group Phoenix in countries such as Mexico and Turkey.
Driven by her passion for movement and continuous skill development, Yvonne trained at FLIC - Scuola di Circo in Turin, Italy (2016-2017), later performing at the International Circus & Performing Arts Festival Mirabilia. She then completed a physical theatre education at the Atelier for Physical Theatre in Berlin (2018-2019), followed by a year-long Contemporary Dance Programme in Vienna and subsequently attended the Vienna Acting School (2020-2023).
In 2024, Yvonne started to collaborate with artistic director Johannes Bode, whose productions explore themes of work, idleness, consumption, the promise of happiness, achievement, and failure. He is the founder of the performance collective euforia & herbst. Yvonne featured in his latest play Jedermann at Wald4tler Hoftheater.
In September 2025 she performed as well in his immersive, improvised play Freibier, presented at Wald4tler Hoftheater and at the Progress Festival, organized by Subetasch, an association for anti-commercial art & subcultures.
Alongside her artistic training, Yvonne holds several diplomas in health and fitness, including certifications as a Health & Fitness & Personal Trainer (Flexyfit Fitness Academy, 2013), Apparatus Gymnastics & Sports Acrobatics Instructor (Austrian Gymnastics Association, 2017) and Children‘s Health Trainer (WIFI Vienna, 2020). She has worked extensively as a fitness and children’s health trainer in various associations and clubs, contributing to projects such as Healthy Movement for Children by ASKÖ WAT Vienna.
Since June 2025, Yvonne has collaborated with Icelandic/ Danish sound artist Runar Magnusson. Together they founded the multidisciplinary collective Yron Mess, dedicated to exploring the hidden contours of the human mind through experimental soundscapes and embodied performance. Through a process-oriented approach with body-work therapist Hille Beseler, they are seeking new pathways toward empathy, understanding, and collective healing.
Their upcoming project is in a research phase with the working title The Hell‘s Valley.
Yvonne is also a prolific writer of poetry, short stories and experimental texts. She characterizes her creative process as Poetic Emesis — a spontaneous, reflexive response to overwhelming moments, when space and time seem to collapse, or simply a remedy for insomnia or boredom. Her writing continually flows into her performative work.
